Purchasing Supervisor / Senior Buyer 

Reports to:

  • Planning, Purchasing & Inventory Manager

 

Job Purpose:

  • The Pharma Works Purchasing position is to participate in the purchasing, production, organization, and distribution of parts and materials throughout the company in an engineer to order environment.  The purchasing department processes engineering releases and ongoing changes to live production orders. The buyer must understand the “bill of material (BOM) concept.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Purchase commercial and non-commercial parts and other operating supplies and/or services in a timely manner to support the manufacturing of finished goods and new product development.
  • Clearly communicate and track communications of inability to meet release requirements.
  • Coordinate with vendors to obtain information concerning product, negotiated price, ability and validation of vendor to provide product or service and delivery date.
  • Track and assist with daily on time delivery and vendor quality to include quarterly reports and qualifications.
  • Determines the need for expediting - follows up on late orders and monitors delivery performance taking corrective action as needed.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and process supplier returns/rejections.
  • Assist with track and post weekly/monthly results while establishing goals and benchmarks.
  • Work with management to establish systems and processes within purchasing while playing a major role in development of same.
  • Attend production meetings where and when needed and work with management to resolve any outstanding issues that may arise.
  • Working within the Pharma Works ERP Software (Jobscope) at a high level (Power User).
  • Maintain “part master” records, part “methods of manufacture” (MoM), costing methods, “bill of material” (BOM) exports and analysis as a backup.
  • Process commercial stock and X parts to Machine shop for fabricating/production as backup.
  • Process commercial parts (Ie: Tooling Die/Punch parts) supplied to outside vendors to fabricate parts as backup.
  • Achieve and track discounts while optimizing volume leverage with vendors. This includes tracking and reporting out on same in an organized and understandable manner.
  • The position also entails as a backup quoting spare parts orders and creation of status reports for management to analyze and determine machine builds on assembly floor.
  • Work as a backup to other associated and non-associated areas when and if needed. Any other tasks that may be assigned on an as need basis.

 

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years hands-on experience purchasing mechanical, electrical and components, utilizing MRP/ERP.
  • APICS (Supply Chain Mgmt Training Program) certification and/or equivalent.
  • Understanding of purchasing principles including the ability to research, analyze and negotiate.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment, and be able to manage and prioritize a dynamic workload.
  • Excellent communication, written, interpersonal and organizational skills. Professional phone and internal business etiquette a must. Must show a professional level of interpersonal communications skills while holding oneself calm, cool and collected at all times.
  • Persistence, determination and a desire to get the job done.
  • Problem solver while considering others ideas to achieve a common goal. Work as part of a team while remaining flexible.
  • Self-motivated and possesses the ability to complete tasks on-time and with little to no supervision in an organized and structured manner.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, Access and Outlook while also having MRP/ERP (Job Scope) experience.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact-based decisions with confidence.
  • Able to manage difficult situations, respond well to change, meet commitments, focus on solving conflict and maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times while remaining neutral in areas or topics not pertaining to position requirement.
  • Understanding of Mechanical and assembly drawings and onscreen 3D model interpretation skill sets.
  • Must understand full range manufacturing, quality and on time delivery management principle. Quick understanding of part cost justification.
